World Soil Day : World soil day is celebrated on 5th December every year. Similarly on 5th December 2015, it was celebrated at Zilla Panchayat office, Tumakuru, with the support from KVK, Hirehalli. On that day, a function was organized at ZP office in which, Smt.Mamatha, IAS, CEO, ZP has participated and inaugurated the event. Dr.Roopa, JDA has presided over the function and Dr.N.Loganandhan, Head of KVK, Hirehalli has participated as one of the guests during the programme.
The CEO ZP emphasized the need for conserving the soil health by proper monitoring its fertility status. She has also stressed on the point of developing soil health cards for the farmers’ fields with support from the KVK, Hirehalli and distributing them to the needy farmers. Dr.N.Lognandhan briefed about the ways and means of conserving the soil health by proper utilization of manures by following the conservation methodologies. He also invited the farmers to get their soil samples tested at KVK, Hirehalli at a nominal cost.
Earlier Mr.P.R.Ramesh SMS (Soil Science) had given a presentation on conservation of soil health by presenting the concerned technologies in detail, taking the examples from the NICRA project carried out by KVK at D.Nagenhalli, Korategere Taluk. There was a meaningful interaction among farmers and experts during the event, followed by distribution of health cards to the 250 farmers. The function ended with vote of thanks by AO followed by lunch. Similarly at another programme on the same topic was organized at Gowraganahaalli, Koratagere,Tumakuru by KVK in collaboration with Department of Agriculture, Koratagere,Tumakuru. Subject Matter Specialist Agril.Extension KN Jagadish participated in the event and demonstrated soil sampling technique method and use of GPS gadgets for documentation of soil sampling..
