Workshop on “Renewable Energy, Efficiency of Agricultural Pump Sets and Water Conservation” was held on 22nd February 2022 at Sir.M.Vishweshwaraiah Auditorium, Tumakuru University by ICAR – Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hirehalli, Tumakuru, Sponsored by Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Ltd., Bengaluru. The programme started with ICAR, IIHR Song and Raita Geete.
Dr. N. Loganandhan, Principal Scientist and Head, ICAR-KVK,Hirehalli, inaugurated the workshop in presence of Shri. Appannagouda, Project Engg. KREDL,Bengaluru. In his inaugural address, he stressed the need for efficient use of renewable energy like solar and wind energy and utilization of these resources will ease the pressure on hydro-electricity, which is in scarcity. He also emphasised the role of energy requirement for agricultural production, energy wastage is a big concern, need to be addressed comprehensively and access to source of energy by all sections of society is a matter of concern.
Shri. Appannagouda, Project Engg. participated as resource person explained in details the advantages of Bureau of Energy Efficient Pumps in agriculture, usage of renewable energy and water conservation methods that farmers need to practice.
Resource persons Shri. Anand, Director, AVISHKAR, NGO, Tumakuru and Shri Raghu, Director, ORDER, NGO, Tumakuru shared the experiences of water conservation on community basis through National Innovative Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) project operational from 2011 to 2021 in D.Nagenahalli cluster villages, Koratagere taluk which was funded by ICAR, New Delhi. Water conservation is a tool to supply water to crops in critical periods of crop growth stages and ground water recharge. He also explained the advantages of preservation of rain water through farm ponds and check dams.
Shri. Saranabassapa Patil, Innovative Farmer, Krishi Pandit, Kalburgi District shared his twenty one innovations which includes solar and water conservation techniques adopted by the farmers all over India.
Booklet and pamphlet on renewable energy, agricultural pump sets and water conservation were distributed during the workshop. About 117 farmers from Tumakuru district participated in the workshop.
