Field Day program on Ridge gourd variety Arka Prasan on 27th August 2021
A field day Programme was arranged to demonstrate the new variety of Ridge gourd “Arka Prasan” released by IIHR, Bengaluru at Rangasamudra village in Madhugiri Taluk of Tumakuru District. This programme was arranged in Mr.Manjunath Reddy Farm. In this programme more than 40 farmers of surrounding villages of Rangasamudra Participated and gained information about this new variety of Ridge gourd. The Farmer has taken up this crop in an area of one acre land and the prominent technology he used are the new Ridge gourd variety- Arka Prasan, Use of Vegetable special, Use of Fruit fly traps and farmer informed the gathering that he may be able to harvest around 15 tons of yield and expecting to get the net income of Rs.1 lakh. On this occasion Dr.Somashekhar, SMS(Plant Breeding) had spoken and informed the gathering about the Potential of this Variety and the role of seed treatment on control of various diseases and pests, later discussed various improved technologies to be followed to get the maximum yield in this crop. Mr.Shasidhar K N, Technical Officer of KVK, Hirehalli also participated and coordinated in the programme. Totally 40 participants were present during the programme, later field visits were also arranged to know live demo of the crop. In this programme, Mr.Suresh N , Member of Gram panchayath also participated and appreciated the effort of Mr.Manjunath reddy to take up this new variety and suggested all the farmers to take up this new variety in their farm to get the higher returns.
