Tomato is very important vegetable crop growing in Tumkur district in an area of 4500 ha and supplying to nearby Metro city Bangaluru. Nearly more than 50 farmers affected because of lockdown due to COVID-19. KVK, Tumkur –II linked these farmers to Nagarabhavi Residents forum consists of 625 residents. Residents forum facilitated the sale point and intimated all the residents about the time and venue of sale through whatsapp.

KVK, Hirehalli identified the affected farmer who are unable sell their produce due to COVID-19. Later we facilitated the sale through Nagarabhavi Residents forum . Initially, KVK motivated and facilitated one farmer Mr. Manjunath from Pavagada who brought 850 Kgs of Tomato and sold to good price of Rs.20/ as against Rs.5/- in the wholesale market at Bangalore. He was made 3 visits at an interval of 3 days and sold around 3500 Kgs totally. By seeing the success, other farmers(12 farmers) from Tumkuru and Mandya districts are selling the different vegetables and fruits (Papaya and watermelon) on Sunday and Wednesday in each week. Now 3 farmers are allowed to sell in each day. Now, residents are purchasing the vegetables only from the farmers at designated place of the layout.
