A hands-on training programme on beekeeping was organized on Jan 28, 2019 at ICAR- Krishi Vigyan Kendra(IIHR), Tumakuru by Dr PVR Reddy, Principal Scientist ICAR-IIHR,Bengaluru for the farmers of ICAR-KVK adopted village of Tumakuru. This training aimed at enhancing the awareness among farmers about beekeeping and the pollination services offered by honeybees. During the day, farmers trained in maintenance of the beehives, beekeeping accessories and live bee colonies. Preliminary information on how to start beekeeping, management of beehives during dearth periods, the economics of beekeeping, bee products and role of bees in crop pollination was explained to the farmers.
This training programme was attended by 35 participants all over from Tumakuru district.
In the morning session, during the inauguration, Dr. Loganandhan, N., Head, ICAR KVK Hirehalli explained about various advantages of the bee keeping both monetarily and on environmental front, which was well received by the trainees. In the forenoon session Sri. Shantiveeraiah explained about various aspects of honeybee rearing and in the afternoon session, he has taken the trainees to the KVK farm and given practical knowledge and skill oriented training for the trainees by showing the boxes kept in the farm. Sri Lakshmipathy Retd. Agriculture Officer and Sri Anand, Director, AVISKAR NGO, Tumakuru participated in the programme.
The training ended on the same day evening at 4.30 pm with certificate distribution. Overall programme coordinated by Shri.K.N.Jagadish, Subject Matter Specialist (Agricultural Extension) supported by Mr.Shashidhar KN., Programme Assistant.
