Beekeeping training at KVK Hirehalli on 31st Dec 2019
A hands-on training programme on beekeeping was organized on Dec 31, 2019 at ICAR- Krishi Vigyan Kendra (IIHR), Tumakuru by Sri Shantiveeraiah renowned Beekeeping Expert in Karnataka for the farmers of Tumakuru. This training aimed at enhancing the awareness among farmers about beekeeping and the pollination services offered by honeybees. During the day, farmers trained in the maintenance of the beehives, beekeeping accessories and live bee colonies. Preliminary information on how to start beekeeping, management of beehives during dearth periods, the economics of beekeeping, bee products and role of bees in crop pollination were explained to the farmers.
This training programme was attended by 8 participants from Tumakuru district.
In the morning session, during the inauguration, Dr. Loganandhan, N., Head, ICAR KVK Hirehalli explained about various advantages of the bee keeping both monetarily and on the environmental front, which was well received by the trainees. In the forenoon session Sri. Shantiveeraiah explained about various aspects of honeybee rearing and in the afternoon session, he has taken the trainees to the KVK farm and given practical knowledge and skill oriented training to the trainees by showing the boxes kept on the farm.
The training ended on the same day evening with certificate distribution by Joint Director Agriculture Sri Jayaswamy.
